—— MENA's largest HSPA network was deployed by Etisalat

"Etisalat is looking to establish a new Etisalat Academy in Egypt like the one that exists in the UAE, in order to raise the quality of people not just for Etisalat's purposes, but also for the whole society. We hope to land 10 million subscribers by 2010 with an overall market share of 30% within the next three years. As our best strategic partner, Huawei can help us achieve this goal"

On the Way to be TOP10 Operator (PDF - 244K)
Etisalat is one of the leading operators in the world, well known for business leadership, service excellence and considerable revenue. While strengthening its mobile network operations in many countries, Etisalat is pursuing a strategy of international expansion and aims to be a global TOP 10 operator in five years.
Etisalat successfully launches Egypt's First HSPA network
With a population of around 74 million people, Egypt is experiencing unprecedented growth in its mobile communications industry. In June 2006, Etisalat won the third nationwide mobile communications license in Egypt, which shows the tremendous confidence Etisalat has in the Egyptian telecom market.
Covering 85% of Egypt and serving some 60 million people, Etisalat Egypt's network has become something of a holy grail for the world's premier telecom equipment vendors. Ultimately, Etisalat's choice of Huawei products and services results in significant savings in the project's total cost of ownership (TCO) and network time-to-market. Key areas where savings are captured are the Huawei 2G base station subsystem (BSS) and the 3G UMTS terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN) having a total capacity of 10,000 carrier frequencies.
Huawei's innovative solution results in outstanding network performance, laying a solid foundation for future growth and ensuring Etisalat's continued success in the wireless mobile market.
At the Mercure hotel, in the heart of Alexandria, Etisalat Egypt's network 3G capability is bolstered by a series of ultra-compact and easy to install distributed Node Bs. The new network's remote radio units (RRUs) are connected using lightweight optical fibers. It can be directly mounted onto towers. This allows Etisalat to achieve feeder loss savings of up to 30%.
In May 2007, Etisalat announced that the Etisalat Egypt large-scale GSM and UMTS integrated network is up and running.
Etisalat Egypt attracts one million subscribers in just 50 days!
Within just 50 days of its May 2007 commercial launch, the new network succeeded in attracting a staggering one million subscribers. Such phenomenal success is not only attributed to Etisalat's solid marketing strategies, but also to the tireless efforts of Huawei's EOT (Establish, Operate and Transfer) service.
Huawei continues to provide Etisalat with overall network operation and management services for the Etisalat Misr network. Specific areas of coverage include network monitoring, customer complaint services, second-tier maintenance, technical support, network management, and system optimization.
The largest HSPA network in MENA
In June 2007, Huawei helped Etisalat successfully deploy the largest HSPA network in the MENA region. The network covers 97% of the populated areas in the UAE and is able to support more than one million 3G end-users who signed up within the first five months of 2007. Huawei's high performance HSPA solution incorporates advanced technology IP-based RAN that supports higher data throughput while reducing transmission costs.
Subscribers with 3G enabled handsets in the UAE can now enjoy smooth web browsing, clear video calling, and fluid mobile TV entertainment without the need to change-out the original SIM card. In addition, Etisalat is able to offer access to television programs using Huawei's versatile mobile television solution.
