America Movil is a leading wireless services provider in Latin America and the fifth largest subscriber in the world in terms of equity.

Excellent 3G networks source from the 40W RRU and BBU

In January 2007, after working with Huawei for the first time on their 3G networks, America Movil was impressed with Huawei's level of expertise over other suppliers. Consequently, America Movil leaned more towards Huawei's state-of-the-art HSPA solutions.

Then in June 2007, America Movil chose Huawei as their 3G supplier and contracted them to be their strategically. Since then, America Movil has rolled out their 3G networks in Brazil, Peru and Ecuador, utilizing Huawei's Distributed Node Bs to support full performance HSPA. Huawei exceeded customer expectations and completed the hardware installation ahead of schedule despite delays experienced in delivery of some key hardware components.

Huawei's innovative 40 W outdoor Distributed Node B Remote Unit (RRU) is capable of being installed directly on poles, against walls, or hanging on towers. This flexibility reduces power consumption loss and increases network coverage and performance.

The 40 W RRU also makes it easier to support a second TRX. Post-deployment tests by professionals and a subscriber survey indicate that such enhancements result in significant improvement to network performance.

America Movil Peru, a subsidiary of America Movil, recently announced the launch of a complete HSPA network in July 2007. Huawei is providing its innovative Distributed Node B and terminal to support HSPA with a downlink speed of 3.6 Mbps and an uplink speed of 1.92 Mbps.

Sharing existing 2G resources and Hybrid IP transmission to decrease TCO

It is universally agreed that operators' profits come from their customers. Given the competitiveness within the mobile market, after operators win the customer, they cannot just sit back, relax, and count their profits. Operators must shift their focus to their CAPEX and OPEX, the foundations for really big profits.

America Movil is the largest 2G operator in the 850 MHz market, and Huawei's Distributed Node Bs support full frequency ranging from 850 MHz to 2.1 GHz. Huawei's primary focus in deploying the America Movil 3G network was to save on TCO expenditures. After a detailed survey and analysis, Huawei came up with three strategies to reduce TCO.

The first strategy made full use of the existing 850 MHz frequency to help the operator expand coverage and conserve resources. The second strategy made full use of the original 2G power supply system, where Base Band Units (BBUs) share existing cabinet space as well as available power in the 2G network.
During installation, however, it was discovered that some 2G BSSs did not have an available -48 V power supply system. Huawei came up with a unique solution: An OFB cabinet was designed to house BBUs and DC rectifiers for -48 V supply power. The environmental enclosure was made rust-, lightning-, and dust-resistant.

Huawei is a pioneering vendor of the Iub IP solution. So, naturally, the third strategy used a hybrid IP solution to save on leased lines using Huawei's embedded IP transmission on Iub/Iu/Iur.

Compare the traditional E1 approach to the Hybrid IP solution as provided in the following table:
