Guarantee Your Broadband Service

——Telefonica/O2 ensures efficient broadband service and network operation with flexible subscriber line test system .

Telefonica is the world's leading telecommunications company, with a significant presence in Latin America, Europe and Africa, and 195.9M clients.

Telefonica Deutschland (TDe), the 3rd largest fixed line carrier in Germany, is mainly operating broadband and voice services. After its merge with O2 Germany into Telefonica O2 Germany in 2006, TDe is delivering wireless services now as well.

Constructing massive capacity SMSC in LA to meet the need of fast service growth

TDe provides xDSL service to ISP and subscribers by ULL (Unbundled Local Loop), leasing copper line and equipment room from DT. Additionally, DT will charge TDe with fault diagnosis service for copper line during deployment and operation. So TDe has to pay a lot of money on OPEX.

Huawei's SLTS with STAM solution, which is composed of Control Center (control & management software) in the centralized office and Local Test Device (BTU and STAM) installed in local office, lightens the burden of OPEX.

Space-saving STAM solution

STAM is a patent MDF-based TAM solution installed in MDF rack. Thus only 1 U high space is needed for BTU installation in DSLAM rack, the additional rack space for TAM installation is saved. The remaining rack space will be able to be used for DSLAM expansion. Furthermore, it's no need for TDe to to rent room space for traditional TAM installation.

Minimized service influence during STAM installation

With the specific golden finger design of STAM, in theory, to mount STAM in MDF rack will keep both directions in punching panel by being connected through the metal layers on both sides of golden finger. Thus, the xDSL service will not be interrupted.

Even in practice, the service influence will be much smaller when STAM is installed in the right method. So SLTS with STAM solution can be installed at daytime, which saves installation & commissioning costs for TDe, comparing with the traditional TAM installation at nighttime.

Bulk concurrent test requests

The TL1 (Transaction Language 1) interface, provided by through Control Center of SLTS to the external system, addresses TDe's bulk preventive test requirements and the VIP customers' test requirements on copper lines.

SLTS is able to support up to 2,000 concurrent tests in total, which allows TDe and her VIP customers to test some specific copper lines according to their demand and schedule.

Milestones

  • In August 2006, Huawei won the open bidding project of Copper Line Test System (CLTS) and TDe selected Huawei as the only equipment supplier of the project.
  • In December 2006, Huawei has deployed SLTS (Subscriber Line Test System) with 690 sites for Phase 1 project.
  • In March 2007, Huawei has delivered additional 600 sites of SLTS for Phase 2 project.
  • Now, Huawei is deploying the Phase 3 project with the increased 830 sites of SLTS.
