——China Telecom (Guangdong) deploys the world's first large-scale distributed IPTV network

Cultivate an ambience for interactive digital entertainment

Huawei's IPTV system provides Guangdong Telecom with high quality TV Over IP services, including live broadcast, time shift and video on demand (VOD). At present, the IPTV platform is offering 45 live broadcast channels, 1 carousel channel, 7-day TV replay, 4-hour time shift programs, and over 5000 hours of VOD programs. It also provides rich other value-added services, including interactive information, games, video blogger, news chatroom, and TV mail. These services have fully exerted the bi-directional interactive strength of the IPTV service, and enabled Guangdong Telecom to take a lead in severe market competitions. Huawei's IPTV solution also contains a provincial central CMP, which helped the construction of the provincial central operation platform. To date,the CMP has accessed multiple communication service providers (CSP), service providers (SP) with value-added services and subsystems of IPTV vendors, including Shanghai Media Group,Southern Media Corporation, Xinhua News Agency, 21 CN, China Games, and Tencent. This has cultivated an ambience for interactive digital entertainment for Guangdong Telecom.

The world's first distributed content distribution network; enabling differentiated operations and fast system expansion

Based on the deep understanding of the existing network services, Huawei offered the world's first distributed EPG (Electronic Program Guide), VOD networking solution to Guangdong Telecom. This solution supports flexible adaptation of multiple networks and deployment of abanduot contents. It can quickly access local programs and implement intelligent distribution of global or local contents. Satisfying the carrier's requirement for differentiated operations by area. As it adopts the distributed networking mode, the system enables fast, safe expansion and can be smoothly upgraded to serve millions of users, hence meeting constantly growing new service requirements.

The unified operation platform assists Guangdong Telecom in intensive operations and reducing OPEX

In orientation to the deficiencies in service expansion and operations over the past year, Guangdong Telecom reconstructed the IPTV service operation platform and access a unified operation platform to manage users, services, contents, EPG, CP/SP, and portal. The unified operation platform is expected to offer strong statistics function in order to support business analysis and decision-making; it should provide complete STB (Set Top Box) management capabilities to enable the automatic distribution of and status control on the STB service.

Via the unified operation platform, Guangdong Telecom effectively integrated all operable resources and flexibly configured them. The platform has enriched the service forms and business patterns of the system and realized intensive operations. In addition to satisfying the user's individualized requirements, the platform has improved the profitability of the IPTV system. By building the unified operation platform, Guangdong Telecom has obtained continuous developments for the audio/video services and value-added services in the IPTV system and obviously reduced the operation expenditures, increased system management efficiency.

The customized solution helps the carrier explore a bigger market
 
Huawei developed and customized an industrial application solution for IPTV users in Guangdong Telecom with many characteristic technologies, such as the personalized EPG, interface machine, and special STB. These technologies have effectively combined the carrier's IPTV service with the applications among industries, and offer complete measures for the information services and characteristic operations of various industries. At present, the IPTV service provided by Guangdong Telecom has been recognized in the hotel industry, and IPTV service numbers have been allocated at scale.

The IPTV solution has successfully demonstrated the high-definition VOD and live broadcast services.
