MTS chooses mobile softswitch to enhance network performance and reduce construction cost

In Russia, E1 rentals have been on the high side. To save E1 and reduce OPEX are still key concerns of MTS. Meanwhile, MTS hopes to realize quick network deployment and unified management across regions to reduce network maintenance cost.

In 2005, MTS chose the mobile softswitch solution firstly released by Huawei to realize the centralized placement and management of softswitch centers by separation of bearer and control. Since the distributed media gateways were scattered in different cities and connected by IP bearer, considerable transmission resources are saved, and network structure is optimized. The solution also enables the space saving for remote equipment rooms, contributing to O&M cost savings of the network. MTS adopted the full set of Huawei mobile softswitch equipment to construct its first mobile softswitch network in Russia, serving millions of subscribers, including those in the capital Moscow.
