Milestones

In December 2006, Huawei completed the phase 1 deployment of the TMIB GSM network.

In May 2006, TMIB awarded Huawei a 2-year GSM network capacity expansion contract, with a total amount of over USD120 million.

Mobile softswitch assists TMIB in reducing network operating cost and increasing revenue

In June 2005, TMIB and Huawei signed the contract for the GSM network capacity expansion and new construction project (Phase 2). Under the contract, Huawei would supply GSM/GPRS base stations and a mobile softswitch core network, as well as a full set of service solutions and high-quality mobile services to the 5 major regions of Bangladesh. After adopting the Huawei mobile softswitch, TMIB saved transmission resources by more than 50%. Especially in the peak traffic period of the traditional Fast-breaking Festival of Bangladesh in October 2006, Huawei's IP-based mobile softswitch solution solved the problem of traffic congestion effectively and increased TMIB's revenue by 40% during the festival.

Deepening strategic cooperation

In May 2006, TMIB signed a 2-year GSM network (Phase 3) capacity expansion contract with Huawei, with a total value of above USD120 million. The contract covered the full set of GSM equipment, including BTS, BSC, IP-based mobile softswitch core network and associated service platforms. As of 2006, Huawei had helped TMIB deploy 1,700 BTSs, with over 15,000 TRXs and serving over 6 million online users.  As the partner of TMIB, Huawei also provided professional consulting services for TMIB's service offerings. Through network optimization and transformation, Huawei helped TMIB construct a biplanar, full IP core network in a hierarchical schema successfully and made it the leading network in Bangladesh.

Huawei's EnerG GSM solution adopts a 2G system based on 3G technologies to reduce network construction and O&M costs, improve network efficiency greatly, and revitalize the GSM network. TMIB introduced the full set of Huawei intelligent network in June 2005 to provide abundant services to users, such as SMS, MMS, Web browse, FNS (Familiarity Number Service). As a result, numerous users were attracted, and the user base increased from the previous 2 million to the 6 million at the end of 2006.
