Sri Lanka, located in the south of India, shines as a pearl in the Indian Ocean. The telecom industry in Sri Lanka has undergone rapid development, and the number of mobile network subscribers is soaring. The telecom market is characterized by fierce competition. Suntel, a leading carrier providing comprehensive services in Sri Lanka, owns the second largest CDMA network and fixed network in the country. The two networks are serving 250 thousand subscribers in total, 150 thousand of which are CDMA subscribers.
In the beginning, however, the CDMA network of Suntel was not as successful as hoped, with only 50 thousand CDMA subscribers. In addition, the network was routinely affected by non-environment factors and the security of the Suntel network was constantly under threat. Suntel finally decided that a new vendor with ample network migration experience must be found. After the migration, the network must be able to quickly provide user-defined services to better the operations of the entire network.
With the best performance in the network test and having extensive mobile network deployment experience, Huawei ws chosen by Suntel as the exclusive CDMA equipment vendor to carry out the overall network migration operation, replace all equipment in the network and provide more reliable services for Suntel customers. To achieve this goal, Huawei has carried out the following operations:
- Provides an advanced softswitch-based configuration for the core network.
- Constructed the first CDMA HLR commercial office site (serving 360 thousand subscribers) with a redundancy configuration in the world. The formal commercial deployment was accomplished within a month after the test.
- Constructed the first CDMA softswitch-based and dual-homed commercial office site in the world. The formal commercial deployment was accomplished within three weeks after the test, with no service interruption.
Huawei shipped all materials to Sir Lanka within 25 days after the contract was signed, deployed 155 base stations within two months, and successfully cutover the network in Nov, 2005.
After the network migration, the number of Suntel subscriber quickly increased owing to the excellent network quality and the many new services, allowing Suntel to become the telecom service provider with the fastest growth. The number of Suntel CDMA subscribers tripled within only six months.
It is with great pleasure that Huawei team has completed CDMA disaster recovery project. After the network migration, the number of Suntel subscriber quickly increased owing to the excellent network quality and the many new services, allowing Suntel to become the telecom service provider with the fastest growth. We expect Huawei will continue the same level of performance in future projects.
