PBTL Enhances its Competitiveness

"With the best infrastructure and services, PBTL will become the best mobile operator in this market.

This cannot be achieved without a reliable supplier for our network. Huawei was chosen as our infrastructure supplier and outsourced managed service provider for these exact reasons. We believe our partnership with Huawei will become a model for other future projects."

PBTL, owned by SingTel, is the largest CDMA operator in Bangladesh. Its network covers major areas in eastern Bangladesh. In October 2004, PBTL proposed to construct a network with a capability of serving 3.5 million users. The project also includes swapping 750,000 existing lines. In addition, PBTL required that its supplier be able to provide efficient engineering services and network operation and maintenance.

PBTL strictly tested each manufacturer on their RF network planning, equipment performance, turkey project implementation services and technical support localization and so on. During the six rounds of test, Huawei stood out with outstanding technological strength, and ranked No.1 for several times. In July 2005, Huawei was selected by PBTL as its partner to deploy a CDMA2000 1X/EV-DO network valued at over 100 million dollars.

The network was successfully deployed in eight months

It's very difficult to deploy the network as in Bangladesh there are a large number of rivers and the climate is hot and humid. Besides providing CDMA2000 end-to-end solutions, Huawei constructed the whole complex network including network planning and optimization and civil engineering.

The network was deployed under Huawei and PBTL's careful planning. Huawei helped PBTL find hundreds of new sites to deploy base stations. During the network construction, Huawei managed to overcome the challenges resulting from the geographical diversity, like densely populated urban areas and stream regions. The network swapping program was focused on ensuring the implementation of the network migration without affecting the current network operations, and achieving smooth transition to reduce PBTL's investment.

Because of the hard work of the project team, eight months later, the network was successfully deployed and launched in February 2006.

PBTL achieved significant market growth with Huawei's services

PBTL achieved significant market growth in the three months after the network deployment. The number of PBTL's subscribers in Bangladesh's CDMA market increased by more than 50%. Huawei's professional services gained recognition of PBTL. Huawei also enabled PBTL to launch a wide range of multimedia services. Then PBTL decided to concentrate on market development and core businesses, with network operation management and maintenance being outsourced to Huawei.

To further support PBTL's network operation and maintenance, Huawei developed a tailored training program for the local staff and built up a team of senior experts. With the professional team, Huawei is able to meet the high requirements brought by rapidly growing subscriber base.
