Migration Towards Future Communication

—— TATA Deployed Future-oriented CDMA Network in Delhi and Kolkata

"TATA's business goal is to achieve 100 million telecom subscribers by 2011. This means our network has to be geared up to handle this increasing traffic, and this is where we expect Huawei to support us efficiently in achieving this goal. " ---- Brij Mathur, General Manager of TATA Teleservices

Migration Towards Future Communication(254k)

As the second largest CDMA operator in India, TATA hopes to attract more subscribers, and expand its market share, by constructing a high-quality CDMA network. TATA's customer base numbered more than 17 million CDMA subscribers in the middle of 2007. At the same time, TATA ranked second, and held 38% of the CDMA market share, in India.

Quick network reconstruction and an enhanced competitive edge

With the rapid growth of mobile users in India, TATA's original CDMA network cannot meet the requirements of service development and is unable to smoothly evolve its network into the future. On the second, TATA needs to accomplish the network capacity expansion and optimization so as to deal with the fierce competition in the future mobile communication markets. As a result, TATA has decided to replace the original CDMA network with more advanced CDMA solutions.

The biggest problem TATA faced was how to quickly complete the network transformation and reduce their level of risk. TATA awarded the project to Huawei based on Huawei's extensive 3G-oriented CDMA network experience.

Huawei's efficient project management team, professional process, and effective platform provided TATA the rapid delivery and high quality network they wanted. In the first phase of the project, it took only five months to deploy a comprehensive 3G-oriented CDMA network in New Delhi. It not only improved network quality and increased system capacity, but also simplified the network structure and significantly reduced operating costs. This strengthened TATA's competitive edge in the marketplace. Moreover, TATA's two million original CDMA subscribers' migration to the Huawei-deployed new CDMA network was smoothly and successfully accomplished.

High-quality network and OPEX-saving

The particularly fierce competition in India‘s telecom market means that operators must continually upgrade their quality of service and network infrastructure to continue their success. Huawei's IP-based CDMA softswitch core network and radio access network solutions help TATA achieve this.

TATA's first item to resolve is the substantial increase in network capacity. TATA's CDMA subscribers increase at the rate of one million customers per month. The relentless growth of subscribers results in a continuous need to improve the network's capabilities and services. However, this usually means spending huge amounts of money to expand an existing network. Huawei's advanced CDMA softswitch network provides a smooth evolution to MMD with substantially lower costs through its effective integration and service provisioning capabilities.

In Delhi, it takes only four Huawei's new generation PARC BSCs to replace the existing 44 BSCs of other vendors. The cabinets have saved operators more than 92% in associated costs!

Network coverage solutions are more complicated in large, crowded cities. They require large capacity networks. By contrast, in some medium-to-small cities where users are rather scattered, wide coverage is a requirement. Lowering costs are the key in such areas. Huawei‘s end-to-end future-oriented CDMA solution allows TATA to realize this goal. Huawei's industry-leading BTS adopts multiple advanced technologies, such as multi-carrier and A-Doherty. This results in power amplifier efficiencies of up to 33%, and a 40% reduction in power consumption. Huawei's IP over STM-1 and IP over E1 solutions conserve more than 50% of existing network transmission resources with a QoS guarantee.

With rich experience in project deployment, professional service team and fast response to customer's requirements, Huawei successfully delivered the network in Delhi, Kolkata. The network quality is rapidly improved after this adjustment, testified by greatly decreased call drop rate. Meanwhile, based on end-to-end All-IP network architecture, TATA can efficiently simplify network, improve resource utilization, and large lower expensive OPEX. During New Year 2008 and Diwali Festival call traffic is about 3 times than the normal record In Delhi. Huawei's new generation PARC BSCs lightened the network burthen of great capability. TATA has significantly advanced its brand value by building a high quality network with clear voice, high security, and future-oriented technology.
