FMC & IMS

With the development of computer, telecom and media technologies, and the increasing consolidation of service experience, communication networks are faced with the trend of convergence. Fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) provides users with seamless convergence service, and is one of the main trends in the development of the telecommunications industry. The convergence of FMC can not only lower operators' OPEX and CAPEX, but also bring about more customers and profits for operators.

FMC serves is both a great opportunity, as well as a challenge to the communications industry, and is a process that will develop gradually. Convergence will progressively move towards industry convergence, seamless switching service, and core network convergence, together with the development of technology based on customers' requirements.

Huawei's FMC strategy consists of ten major modules, and can provide users with a complete FMC solution that allows them to enjoy "seamless convergence service anytime, anywhere and via any terminal".

Softswitch is now a mature voice solution, and IMS is suitable for a variety of multimedia services, thus allowing for both softswitch and IMS to coexist and develop together. IMS can share its experience and results in terms of QoS, safety, reliability, large-scale networking gained during its development with softswitch. In addition, softswitch can be integrated into the network based on IMS architecture in its future development, thus protecting the operator's investment, and guaranteeing the uninterrupted transfer of clients and services to IMS. From a development perspective, the IMS architecture will serve as the foundation for future network convergence.

Huawei's IMS solution is fully open. At the same time, a partner program is currently in the works, to ensure that users including third party service providers, and terminal manufacturers can access Huawei's IMS system conveniently. With the help of Huawei's IMS solution and partner program, operators can construct a cooperative, win-win industry chain, and successfully evolve to convergence network.

The development of computer technology, telecom technology and media content, especially the emergence of the Internet, has greatly changed telecommunications, setting a clear trend towards mutual convergence...
It will be some time before FMC will be fully implemented because it is still a relatively new field. At its early stage, FMC consists mainly of binding services and charges which allow operators to promote brands and attract clients...
FMC cannot be implemented without the support of key technologies, among which IMS is the most crucial...
As a leading provider of telecommunications solutions, Huawei has its own FMC strategy aiming to enable users to get to enjoy a seamless convergent experience anytime, anywhere, and via any terminal...
Huawei's IMS solution has the ability to enable network convergence which supports fixed and mobile access simultaneously...
As early as 2001, Huawei began to research IMS and take an active part in the activities of various standard organizations. As of the end of 2005, Huawei had submitted nearly 300 proposals to the ITU-T, 3GPP/3GPP2, TISPAN and OMA...
