In May 2008, the Chinese government presented a telecom industry restructuring plan. Seven months later, the three existing integrated operators obtained 3G licenses, and the world noticed. The far-reaching implications on China Telecom and the global CDMA industry will unfold quickly from now on. 

For China Telecom, an operator with the world' s largest fixed network, this is an unprecedented opportunity to open a new chapter of full service operations and bring subscribers vibrant new service experiences. 

The rise of China Telecom has injected new vitality into the global CDMA industry. First, China Telecom unveiled a business plan aimed at developing over 100 million subscribers in three years. Second, they purchased CDMA network equipment and terminals through public bidding immediately after the restructuring plan was announced. Third, the mobile Internet brand e surfing was swiftly launched and preparations were made to release the 189 number. Their innovation and implementation will influence CDMA development and give a boost to the entire industry. 

Huawei has been China Telecom' s long-term partner and has achieved remarkable accomplishments in the global CDMA arena. In 2007, Huawei ranked number one in terms of market share gains in the newly-added global CDMA EV-DO equipment. In 2008, Huawei CDMA maintained rapid growth with 220,000 transceivers new shipments, and cumulatively reached 480,000 transceivers over time. 

In the bidding for China Telecom' s CDMA Phase 1 Project, Huawei achieved historical breakthroughs and won contracts for networks covering most of China' s economically developed provinces and municipalities such as Beijing, Tianjin, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Among all bid-winning vendors, Huawei had the largest delivery volume, the tightest schedule, and the most arduous tasks. 

Facing the delivery challenge for such a gigantic project, Huawei withstood the test. The massive application of the 4th generation BTSs, efficient processes, and extensive network construction experience ensured project delivery on time and helped China Telecom to create a reputation for speedy and high quality delivery. 

The world is looking to China for CDMA models. In a country with a population of 1.3 billion, there is virtually unlimited development potential for China Telecom and Huawei, its most preferred partner. Together, they are sure to take CDMA to amazing new heights.
