RPR technology is the most current and advanced ring network technology in the industry. The solution of using Huawei RPR technology to build large-scale education MAN has been used widely in the industry.

As a member of RPR alliance, Huawei has been actively participating in the establishment of and the discussions on the RPR standard and has been keeping up with the most current progress of RPR. With the development of the products, Huawei will better the RPR products in the access layer, the convergence layer and the core layer. It will also fully support RPR on transportation equipment, routers, switches and other equipment. The system's transmission rate reaches 622M ~ 10G and the RPR products supporting the physical layer of Ethernet and the SONET/SDH physical layer are available. The IP ring network of Huawei provides optimized switchover protection mechanism. By combining with the QOS of the upper layer protocol, the IP ring network can provide better solutions.

The RPR ring network is applied mainly to build low cost, high performance IP MAN and it functions as the bearer network of the IP service in the MAN. It can also be applied to the access network and VPN service because of its good QOS feature and bandwidth assurance.

Huawei is also the first manufacturer in the industry who delivered RPR ring network technology and applied it to the MAN.NE80/40 series core routers can be used in the nodes on the RPR ring and the campus networks can connect to nearest nodes on the ring. Huawei can provide 2.5G/622M RPR ring network solutions which have been applied into the Broadcast & Television MAN of Shanxi Province and the Education MAN of Xian city. 

Education MAN Solution the Whole City

Huawei Education MAN has take enough considerations about the current network status of the city subscribers in the educational industry of our country. The following figure takes Quidway series product as an example. The solution centers the networks of the region/city Education Committee and the Electrified Education Center. The central switch adopts Quidway S8016 product as the core equipment of the network and it aggregates the uplink data from the school S6506/S5516/S3526 by GE link or FE link.  As shown in the figure below:

Quidway S512 product is the representative product of Huawei wire speed switching network series products which are designed for medium or large-scale core nodes and the product belongs to 10Gb switching and routing product. The current S6506 can provide a maximum of 64 GE ports and it provides full line-speed switching and business services of L7.The comprehensive access management server of Huawei equipped in the network center provides multiple access identification methods for the subscribers, including WEB, 802.1X , PPPOE and etc. The administration system will manage all the equipment in the network as a whole. The firewall equipment can protect the network against virus invasion and the malicious attacks of the subscribers in the external networks. The egress router can serve as the NAT gateway to realize policy routing.

In the center of the campus network, Quidway S6506, Quidway S5516 or Quidway S3526 products can be adopted according to the scale of the campus network. Quidway S6506, Quidway S5516 and Quidway S3526 products are all full line-speed three-layer switches, which can realize the functions of L2, L3 and L4 line-speed forwarding, L3 interconnection and line-speed multilayer policy filter at the same time, all these functions are used to realize the ultra complex VLAN service isolation, interconnection control and flow classification functions, etc.

The campus networks of the schools in the suburb are interconnected through WAN and the Quidway R2600 series routers are used as the interconnection routers of the WAN. The series routers can provide rich and flexible interfaces, including Ethernet interfaces, sync/async serial ports, cE1/PRI interfaces, auxiliary interfaces and 8/16 async serial ports.You can select networking scheme among multiple WAN technologies as PSTN/ISDN, Frame Relay, X.25 and DDN freely.For country preliminary schools in the border areas, the networks can be connected in dialup or wireless mode to save the network investment.

For suburban schools, their networks can be connected to the Education Committee by 100M line through MAN in the city; For schools in the outskirts, their networks can be connected to the Education Committee by leased 2M dedicated line and the dialup line will be used as the backup line. Huawei S3526 or S5516 can be used as the central switch of the campus network according to the scale of the network in the middle and preliminary schools.
