We are honored to declare that the Huawei DataCom Network Management System (Huawei iManager N2000 DMS V300R003 and Huawei iManager NSM V200R005) has been generally available in 22-10-2007.

The Huawei DataCom network Management System provides the ability of network element and service management, and complies with the eTOM/TOM model. This version of products breaks the situation of separation of network element management and service management. And users can explore and manage the network in one client.

It contains Huawei iManager N2000 DMS V300R003 and Huawei iManager NSM V200R005. DMS is the basic software package, and NSM is the software package of service management based on DMS.

DMS is positioned on carrier class EMS, adapts Huawei's full series data communication devices. With these components, the EMS can provide users with flexible NM solutions. The core software package offers view, resource, security, fault, cluster, log, and element management system (EMS). The device manager provides graphical device monitoring and management functions. The HGMP manager converts management on a group of scattered devices into overall management on a cluster, which saves IP addresses, improves management efficiency, and reduces management costs.

NSM is positioned on carrier class service management system, adapts Huawei's full series data communication devices and provides end to end service management such as VPN MPLS TE. By North Band Interface, it provides the ability of integration with OSS. By this mean of services, NSM can also help to improve management efficiency, and reduce management costs.

1.Relationship with old versions

The integrate version of Huawei DataCom network Management System inherits all the main futures of Huawei iManager N2000 DMS V300R002 and Huawei iManager NSM V200R003. At the same time, the following futures are offered in this version: 

Configuration of RPR; Complies the Management of RPR under the scenario in Metro Ethernet;

Alarm template, which supply the functions of analysis and statistic of historical alarm data.

The Huawei iManager NSM V200R005 inherits all the main futures of Huawei iManager NSM V200R003, complies the service management of VPN,
MPLS TE etc. under the scenario pf ME/IP Core solution, which covers the service planning, service fulfillment and service assurance. 

2.Futures and Values

Unified and centralized solution management

The DMS delivers management solutions for IP backbone networks, IP MANs, metropolitan Ethernets, multi-service broadband access networks, Ethernet access networks, and WLAN access networks. For Ethernet access networks, it also delivers Huawei Group Management Protocol (HGMP) solutions.

In a range of solutions, the DMS implements centralized and unified management of various devices, providing policing, operation configuration, maintenance and integrated service management across the whole network.

Easy performance statistics

The DMS allows the user to view performance data and manage network performance in real-time.

Real-time monitoring of NE load and network service quality and history performance data analysis help the user know the current operation and performance status of the network, forecast the network operation status, guard against failures, and plan network operation in a reasonable way.

Powerful fault management

Supports topology positioning, remote notification, filtration and statistics, redefinition, and maintenance knowledge base for alarms and provides perfect means for fault location

Convenient Configuration management

Inventory Management: Provides management of network hardware and related services, such as devices, boards, ports, interfaces and links

Data Center (DC) : Provides centralized management of configuration files and map programs

NE Configuration: Provides configuration and maintenance menus on graphical interfaces for related service operation

Configuration Changes Audit: Audit the changes of configuration files and software versions of devices

Device Manager: Provides real-time performance monitoring of device panels and allows the user to perform simple configuration of routers and switches

End-to-end MPLS service management

As the MPLS network service management system, the LSP Manager implements centralized and unified management on the MPLS protocol, MPLS TE protocol, static LSP service, MPLS TE tunneling service, and MPLS TE protection group/MPLS OAM detection configurations. It also provides direct end-to-end service planning and service deployment for service provisioning, which efficiently reduces the customer's operation and maintenance costs.

Support of cross-platform features

Based on Huawei's unified and integrated Management Application Platform (iMAP), the DMS runs on the Solaris operating system or Windows operating system. While providing high-end solutions for large networks, it adapts to low cost solutions as well.

Desirable system structure and scalability

It employs the mature and widely used Client/Server structure and at the same time uses a Browser/Server structure in the report system. It supports distributed and hierarchical database system, service processing system, and foreground application system. Concurrent operation of multiple clients is also supported.

In addition, with a multi-process, modular, and object-oriented design mechanism, the service processing system separates the data collection layer from the service processing layer and enables distributed deployment of multiple collectors. This allows the whole system to be expanded flexibly to meet the management need of large complicated networks.

High security and reliability

With enterprise-class database platform design, it delivers high security in terms of authority management, data backup, and service backup.

It provides a highly reliable remote disaster recovery scheme with dual system for network management and real-time data synchronization among remote servers. When the active server fails, the standby one will immediately take over, thus guaranteeing system data security.

The remote disaster recovery scheme for network management supports monitoring and protection of the NM (network management software, database, and network communications) as well as floating IP addresses.

In the single server mode, it is also possible to protect data through disk mirroring.

The unified alarm, topology, device panel and configuration management interfaces reflects care of the user's operation habits with consistent visual effects. Moreover, it is possible to do operations in batches to simplify the job.

It provides useful and rich contents that can be easily retrieved. It also provides online help and allows off-line use. Help the system support cross-platform operation

A variety of external interfaces

South-bound interfaces such as SNMP, Telnet, and Syslog are available to match the managed objects and implement comprehensive NE management.

Automatic northbound interfaces like SNMP and CORBA are used for alarm, topology, resource, and configuration purposes for the OSS and network level management system. This helps the operator build a support platform for unified network level monitoring and automatic services.

Third-party OSS integration

If the DMS is unable to meet some of the network management needs, Huawei provides solutions that integrate third-party OSS or third-party NM.

Huawei provides northbound interfaces for topology management, fault management, and inventory management. For example, Huawei has obtained license from Micromuse for the use of CORBA as northbound interface. This means that the DMS can be successfully integrated with the Netcool OMNIBus.
