IP-bearer network deployment will cover over 120 cities across 30 provinces
[Beijing, 19 July 2007] Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. (Huawei), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that it has been selected by China Unicom, a leading service provider in China, to deploy its next-generation IP-bearer networks. With the contract, Huawei is now China Unicom's largest IP Network Transformation Partner, supplying all of China Unicom's Core Router purchases and 67 percent of its Edge Router purchases.
Under the agreement, Huawei will provide Quidway® NetEngine 5000E/80E/40E ("NE5000E/80E/40E") carrier-class routers to build an IP-bearer network, which will support multiple services such as IP voice, mobile packet, and VPN for the operator's customers. The network deployment will cover more than 120 cities across 30 provinces in China.
Huawei's IP bearer network solution addresses China Unicom' s pressing needs for network transformation owing to its large capacity, sound quality of service (QoS) system and its ability to process extensive applications. In addition, the solution can protect the operator's previous investments owing to its good upgradeability and scalability. It can also provide end-users with 3G and other new services.

By the end of 2006, Huawei's Quidway Data Communication products has been deployed in more than 102 countries and regions, delivering national trunk network in UK, Russia, Spain, Brail, Thailand and China. In IP-bearer networks area, Huawei is one of the most influential suppliers and is the best partner for operators wanting to undergo IP transformation. Huawei has been listed by China Telecom for its CN2 Program(China Telecom Next Carrying Network) and has been chosen as the sole supplier of China Netcom's IP-bearer network. Huawei has also formed a strategic partnership with Etisalat in the UAE and Vodafone Romania in IP-bearer network building.
