Huawei and Microsoft Set up Joint Lab

Shenzhen, China,(21  October 2002) -- Huawei Technologies, a global provider of network equipment and solutions, today announced that the company has signed a strategic agreement with Microsoft, the worldwide leader in software, services and Internet technologies, to set up a joint lab at Huawei's headquarter in Shenzhen, China. Huawei and Microsoft signed the agreement on September 26, 2002 at Huawei's headquarters in Shenzhen, China.

According to the agreement, Microsoft will supply its solutions and software to Huawei and the two parties will set up a joint software-related technology laboratory in Shenzhen, China, incorporating Microsoft's unparalleled strength as a software innovator and Huawei's expertise in the telecom industry.

Equipped with a set of state-of-the-art development and testing devices related to Microsoft technologies, the lab has been intended to provide a complete and stable software and hardware environment for designing and testing Huawei's telecom products. Also, the two sides have agreed to conduct a wide range of cooperation in technical training and project development.

According to industry analysts, founding of the joint lab has rightly combined Huawei's expertise amassed in the telecom sector and Microsoft's in-depth understanding and far-reach vision in software products and technologies on a complementary basis. Microsoft announced its entry into the telecom industry by launching its Microsoft.Net architecture and the corresponding strategy two years ago.
