(Beijing, CHINA –9 November 2005) Huawei today announced that it has been awarded a substantial contract by China Netcom (CNC). As part of the deal, Huawei will supply Next Generation Network ('NGN') equipment for CNC's NGN backbone network, which includes the NGN toll network, NGN IP bearer network and nationwide NGN key account network. Huawei has also been chosen as the sole supplier for CNC's IP bearer network and key account network.

Huawei will provide the U-SYS NGN system for the China Netcom NGN toll network, which provides toll voice services through Softswitch technology. This network, and the NGN IP bearer network, covers seven geographic regions and 31 provinces and will provide services across the country.

The CNC NGN IP bearer network, positioned as the future telecom service bearer network, is designed to carry nationwide NGN services, key account enterprise services and highly value-added telecom real-time services. This network employs high-end data communication products designed for leading telecom operators.

To meet the business requirements of key accounts, the dedicated nationwide key account network will use the Huawei U-SYS NGN system and the NGN intelligent platform to provide value-added services including IP CENTREX.

As one of the leaders in the development of network transformation technology and solutions, Huawei provides end-to-end NGN solutions, including full access layer, control layer, service layer and management layer solutions, as well as NGN bearer network solutions.

To date, more than 220 commercial networks have been deployed using Huawei SoftSwitch products for over 80 operators in more than 50 countries and so gaining leading market share.

With previous experience of building dedicated IP bearer network for China Mobile and CN2 network for China Telecom, Huawei is becoming a world-leading full-service IP network solution provider.
