MTS Uzbekistan obtained license for the LTE network construction in Uzbekistan and signed an agreement with Huawei on the introduction of this standard

[27 October 2009 – Moscow, Russia] OJSC Mobile TeleSystems (NYSE: MBT), the largest cell operator in Russia and CIS countries, announced that MTS Uzbekistan, a 100% subsidiary of OJSC Mobile TeleSystems, obtained the license of the Uzbek telecom and informatization agency to use the frequency range at the disposal of the company for the construction of the LTE network in Uzbekistan. The company also signed an agreement with Huawei, a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, on organizing an LTE network based on Huawei equipment in Uzbekistan.

The agreement stipulates the creation of a project work group for the introduction of the LTE technology in Uzbekistan, as well as the organization of the LTE pilot zone in 2010-2012 in Tashkent. The agreement also covers the development of the technical solutions in the sphere of network construction based on the new technology considering the configuration of the current 2G/3G network. Besides Huawei will conduct training for employees of MTS Uzbekistan technical block based on the Vodafone LTE network.
