Partnership between SME Corporation Malaysia and Huawei brings SMEs to the Leading Edge of Digital Economy

Realized through joint incubation program, talent development program and SME ICT adoption research project

[Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 6 February 2018] SME Corporation Malaysia and Huawei Technologies jointly held a kickoff meeting in a series of implementation programs to bring Malaysia’s SMEs forward. The joint effort includes building an incubation laboratory program to promote SME innovation, develop SME Talent Development Program to increase the skills on digital competency, and develop a research paper for ICT adoption in Small and Medium Enterprise industry.

SME Corporation Malaysia team lead by CEO Datuk (Dr) Hafsah Hashim and Huawei’s team lead by CEO Baker Zhou brings SMEs to the forefront of a Digital Economy

This is one of the strategic initiatives of Baker Zhou in his appointment as Huawei Malaysia’s new Chief Executive Officer.

“Huawei will bring in the resources of our innovation and the experience that we have gathered from our partners and customers from all over the world to ensure this contribution will be a success to the Digital Economy in Malaysia,” said Baker Zhou, Chief Executive Officer, Huawei Malaysia.

After the exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Huawei Technologies and SME Corporation Malaysia in November 2017, both teams continued their efforts to path the development journey of SME; hence, jointly organized an implementation workshop on Digitalizing SME. This workshop’s objective is to promote cooperation in areas of research on SME ICT adoption, promote ICT innovation and nurture digital talent for SMEs towards building the nation’s digital economy.

“We intend to equip the young talents with digital knowledge and we would like to enforce pilot projects in the rural townships and education,” said Datuk (Dr) Hafsah Hashim, Chief Executive Officer, SME Corporation Malaysia.

According to the agreement reached at the meeting, the programs will start to be implemented this year.
