Huawei opens doors for students to learn more about ICT trends and developments leveraging its latest products and solutions at its innovative centre

Kuala Lumpur, 21 August, 2017: As part of a collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Huawei today held a closing ceremony at its Customer Solution Innovation and Integration Experience Centre (CSIC) marking the company’s fulfilled promise of raising local ICT talents, accommodating over 300 students through organized industry workshops. Present during the ceremony were the final 40 workshop participants, coming from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi MARA in East Malaysia.

At last year’s opening of the centre inaugurated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ministry of Higher Education to further drive and support ICT training and education. Appointed as an advisor for raising ICT education and talent, and Smart Campus, the agreement saw Huawei making the promise of selecting 300 local public universities and polytechnic students to provide them the opportunity to attend programmes and workshops held in the centre.

Speaking to students and industry professionals during the closing ceremony, Dr Arham Abdullah, Director of Industry Relations Department of Higher Education Malaysia shared, “As the country moves towards Industry 4.0, we will start to see the need for a new set of skills required for digital transformation and the skill set of today’s generation be out of date. Primarily in the ICT sector, we need to start working now to ensure the youth are well prepared and equipped to be industry 4.0 ready. Together with leading industry partners such as Huawei and their knowledge, expertise and tools will ensure students are given unique technical skills and insights and the ability to face the challenges ahead. Workshops such as this, prepares youth with the practical skills that helps them to adapt as the country builds its way to a more highly industrial and digitized economy.”

At the centre, an informative session was held by experts in the industry for the students. It introduced Huawei’s activities that spans across the company’s local and global operations, highlighting its objectives and the niche skills required to be employed by Huawei.

Some of these students had the rare opportunity to experience firsthand innovative applications and services that leverages Huawei’s innovative platform looking at horizontal and vertical integration, the industrial Internet of Things, cybersecurity, cloud computing, big data  analytics and others, illustrating a very good example on how to build bridges between theory and practice.

“Huawei deeply believes in the value of empowering the youth as they are the future that will help build a better connected world. We have always worked to facilitate openness through collaboration by working with local universities. Our principle of shared success guides us to help local talent to align education with the real life requirements of the ICT industry. Through our industry workshops, we are helping to shape a strong talent ecosystem by sharing best practices which will drive and support ICT industry development in Malaysia,” said Abraham Liu, CEO of Huawei Malaysia.

Huawei hosted the first delegation from Multimedia University with 39 students and 5 lecturers last year. In the past year, Huawei has received a total number of 17 universities, 313 tertiary students and 86 professors and lecturers visiting its innovation centre.

The innovation centre is located at The Intermark, Kuala Lumpur. It aggregates over 120 global smart technology applications and services from Huawei's clients and research and development (R&D) labs. This centre has been designed as an ICT innovation hub and centre of excellence to drive industry open ecosystem and accelerate digital economy transformation in Malaysia.  Companies in the private and public sectors, including the government, are able to leverage on this innovative platform to design and test technology solutions, verify new business models as well as nurture innovative applications and services.
