Huawei and UPM drive success With Smart Campus Network Project

Kuala Lumpur, 27th October 2015: Huawei Malaysia and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the appointment of Huawei as UPM’s technology partner in driving the Smart Campus Network Project aimed to improve ICT advancement in Malaysia especially in higher education sector.

As part of the collaboration, Huawei, is providing its 100G Agile Network solutions to UPM for the first time. The 100G Agile network will enable UPM to enjoy higher bandwidth and future-proof investment which is ready for IT expansion in the coming years. The Agile network also serves as a platform for UPM to become one of the pioneers in providing the next generation of teaching mode like virtual training and virtual classroom to students.

Huawei will provide 50 trainer certifications to UPM staff and 100 Huawei Certified Network Associate (HCNA) certifications to students in a five-year term under the MoU, enabling UPM to provide training to its students on Huawei’s latest technology to better equip them in their chosen field of study and career path. Top UPM students will also be selected by Huawei fora study-visit trip to Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China, to educate them on the latest ICT technology.

“Our partnership with Huawei will go a long way in achieving our aim to be the leading Digital Education Centre (LDECC) in Malaysia for the Smart Campus Network Project that will help drive UPM’s ICT establishment through nurturing young talents on campus. With Huawei’s ICT expertise, it will support our on-going Research & Development for the industry that will contribute to the Smart City initiative.. This will play an important role in the development of Malaysia’s economy and technology infrastructure” said YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Fauzi Hj. Ramlan,Vice Chancellor UPM on the partnership.

“With the ICT industry in Malaysia growing and changing at such a rapid pace, theoretical knowledge alone is no longer sufficient for young talents to excel. Our talents require practical experience and exposure to better understand this industry,” said Mr. Abraham Liu, CEO of Huawei Malaysia.

“It is an excellent opportunity working with UPM as their aspirations are aligned to Huawei’s beliefs in pushing the boundaries of the ICT industry. We hope to continue working hand-in-hand in long term partnership to raise the bar of ICT talents and expertise in Malaysia,” Mr. Liu elaborated.

“UPM is renowned for its outstanding Research & Development in both biotechnology and agriculture sectors, and we believe that with this collaboration, the ICT sector has just as much potential to achieve great success in becoming the Leading Digital Education Centre (LDEC) in Malaysia,” he concluded.
