Huawei Introduces Certification to Enhance Professional Competence among Tech Graduates
Commits to 45-day ICT skill development program with 4 universities; Training will commence at Huawei Global Training Center in Cyberjaya on 3rd August
Kuala Lumpur, 24th August, 2015: Shortly after the Malaysian Government announced the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education), Huawei Malaysia has once again come through on its commitment to support ICT skills development in the country. The company launched a breakthrough initiative in Malaysia with the four Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN) universities, namely, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP), Universiti Tun Husseain Onn Malaysia (UTHM), and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). The project was officiated by YB Dato' Seri Idris Bin Jusoh, Minister of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and Abraham Liu, CEO of Huawei Malaysia. The program is designed to increase professional skills amongst graduates through an industry based curriculum and is aligned with the Malaysia Higher Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education). Selected graduate students will be exposed to end-to-end holistic ICT training covering IP, Wireless, Fixed, Transmission, and Core Network. The 45-days training programs, which ends on 14th September 2015, will conclude with trainees being awarded the Huawei Certified Network Graduated Certification (HCNG).
Under the program, Huawei will specifically deliver:
• Industry based Course Curriculum, i.e. world-class ICT curriculum that undergraduates need to succeed a dynamic technology industry

• Globally benchmarked Certification and Global Test Delivery system to support international, accurate computer-based test system and flawless exam delivery
Huawei will also help universities and training centers build a Telecom Laboratory with telecom equipment including Routers, CPE, Base stations, servers and simulators.
The collaboration between MTUN and Huawei form the first initiative adopted by MOHE to enhance graduate employability. Huawei will deliver the training using its e-learning platform where students will have access to Huawei’s smart devices to access training materials and lab.
In his speech, Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh stated: “Successful collaboration between academia and industry is key towards the advancement and growth of higher education in Malaysia. The transfer of technology, sharing of industry know-how and best practices, joint problem solving as well as collaboration in technical areas, research and human capital training, are among the many benefits of a strong relationship between academia and industry. In this regard, I am heartened to be here today and be part of this commendable collaboration between the four universities which make up the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN) and Huawei. I am confident that this effort will go a long way towards enabling us to nurture holistic and balanced graduates, especially so in the ICT industry.”
Speaking at the launch of the first ever HCNG program in Malaysia, Huawei Malaysia CEO Abraham Liu said, “At Huawei, we take our role of cultivating young leaders very seriously. Skill development and academic alliances is a central to our strategy and community initiatives in the markets we operate. We are very pleased to be part of the visionary blueprint by the Ministry of Higher Education. We are certain that the HCNG program will help meet the objectives set out for Malaysian technology graduates. Our ultimate aim is prepare them to thrive in a global, technology- and knowledge-driven economy and the opportunities it presents.”
Mr Liu further added that Malaysia’s ultimate aspiration to achieve high-income developed nation status is very much dependent on an innovation-centric economy that finds its roots in greater understanding of technology, knowledge, and creativity. He said that Huawei is keen on developing local talent, enhance knowledge transfer, and promote a greater understanding of converged ICT technologies and digital economy.
Huawei has contributed significantly to raising the bar for ICT human capital development in Malaysia. The company trains 20,000 engineers annually at its global training centers in Cyberjaya. In collaboration with MDeC, Huawei has facilitated ICT training for over 10,000 teachers and students and has built training labs in eight top Malaysian universities. In recent months, Huawei also partnered with University Malaya to develop entrepreneurial skills among students through a semester-long challenge to independently run the Huawei device store on campus – a first of its kind in the country. Later this year, Huawei will see 20 Malaysian university students to join the ‘Seeds for the Future’ initiative for the second year wherein the company sponsored a two week study trip in China. Mr Liu himself is part of MOHE’s prestigious CEO Faculty Program whereby he invests significant time in mentoring staff and students and lecturing at universities across Malaysia.
“Industry-academia collaboration is a key component in creating and sustaining skill development initiatives. It helps students understand the practical application of what they learn in University. We are grateful for the ongoing support we have received from the Malaysian government in realizing our vision for Malaysian ICT education. We have built a solid partnership with them and will continue to facilitate knowledge transfer and find more opportunities for collaboration in the coming years,” Mr Liu concluded.
