Huawei is a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider which established its Middle East headquarters over 10 years ago. Today Huawei Middle East is headquartered in Bahrain and has offices across 10 countries with over 3,800 employees—of whom over 64% are local hires. In the Middle East, Huawei is most actively involved in Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Pakistan.

The Middle East is one of the fastest growing regions for Huawei around the world. Huawei’s revenue from the Middle East in 2012 totaled USD$2.083 billion, an 18% increase over the previous year.

Huawei provides a broad range of tailored products, solutions and consulting services in the Middle East with all three of Huawei’s main business groups—Carrier Networks, Enterprise and Device—active in the region.

Carrier Networks

Huawei offers a range of custom products, solutions and consulting services for telecom operators across wireless, core networks, applications & software, fixed networks, terminals & devices, and professional services. Through years of development, Huawei has become the world’s trusted leader in the era of All-IP Convergence. In the Middle East, Huawei has invested considerable resources to consolidate its market presence, establishing a strong relationship with key operators such as: Etisalat, STC (Saudi Telecom Corporation), Zain, Batelco, du, Qtel, Mobily, Vodafone and many others.

Commitment to Innovation

Every Huawei innovation stems from close interaction with its customers to understand their needs and market demands. Huawei annually invests an average of more than 10% of its total revenue into research and development (R&D), with the company maintaining a total of 16 R&D centers and 28 joint innovation centers worldwide. In 2012, Huawei invested USD$4.83 billion—or 13.7% of its total sales revenue—into research and development programs.

Corporate Social Responsibility

As one of the largest companies in the region, Huawei is committed to working with the industry and government organizations to increase mobile penetration while stimulating socio-economic investment through our Corporate Social Investment programs.

To provide the education and training necessary to help young engineers and telecommunications specialists contribute to the long term socio-economic growth of the region, Huawei has partnered with leading telcos to establish local training centers that provide expertise on the latest technology, regular workshops, and knowledge sharing. Huawei has also launched the region’s first certified LTE training program in partnership with Etisalat Academy, created Joint Innovation Centers with partners such as Zain Kuwait, and established a Middle East IT Competence Center in Bahrain.

Huawei also supports WiMAX and LTE Technology and Research Center with KACST in Saudi Arabia by providing equipment. For many years, Huawei has sponsored students from UAE universities and colleges chosen by the Ministry of Higher Education to study at the Huawei University in China. In Bahrain, Huawei has also signed an agreement with the government to support the Ministry of Labor in offering ICT training to as many as 1,000 Bahrainis a year whilst helping graduates to find work opportunities within the sector.

Huawei has also worked with Saudi operator STC to provide Key Event Assurance during Hajj for the past eight consecutive years, ensuring basic voice and SMS services during high-traffic periods.

Huawei currently abides by a publicly communicated CSR strategy based on the following eight pillars: bridging the digital divide, caring for employees, fair operation, environmental protection, social contribution, optimizing supply chain CSR management, stakeholder communication, and safe operation.
