The 2007 Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank Group

The 2007 Annual Meeting of the Boards of Governors of the African Development Bank Group (ADB) will be held from 16 to17 May 2007 in Shanghai. This is the second time that the annual meeting is held outside Africa. Delegations from non-shareholder countries, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and other regional financial development institutions will attend the meeting.

Engaged in promoting the economic development and social progress of its regional members, individually and jointly, the ADB is the largest regional multilateral development institution in Africa. It has 77 shareholders including 53 countries in Africa and 24 non-African countries. China became its shareholder in 1985.

This time, the annual meeting will be hosted by the People's Bank of China (PBOC), or China's Central Bank. Zhou Xiaochuan, President of the PBOC will chair the Preparatory Committee of the meeting.
