Huawei and NT Launch Commercial WiMAX Network in Russia
[Kemerovo, Russia, 22 July, 2009] Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that Russian operator, New Telecommunications (NT), has launched its commercial mobile WiMAX network (802.16e) in Kemerovo, Russia.

According to the agreement, NT plans to deploy WiMAX-based mobile broadband networks across 25 cities in Russia. This is the first commercial WiMAX network for this project. End-users in Kemerovo are now able to enjoy a wide range of mobile broadband services, such as wireless broadband Internet access, virtual corporate network and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol).

Mr. Pavel Kulikov, General Director of NT, said: "NT is committed to becoming one of the leading hi-tech companies in Russia. By adopting Huawei' s latest WiMAX technology, we are confident to achieve our goal and boost the development of mobile broadband industry of the country."

This state-of-the-art WiMAX (802.16e) solution provided by Huawei uses distributed base stations, which is able to enhance the coverage capability and the performance of the whole network.

Mr. Zhao Ming, President of CDMA and WiMAX, Huawei Wireless, said: "The distributed base stations will enable operators to achieve fast network deployment and lower their total cost of ownership. We are confident in our ability to deliver high-quality WiMAX networks to NT and other leading operators worldwide to support their business success."
