By providing a unified access platform for copper, fiber, and coaxial cable, Huawei SingleFAN delivers an enhanced user experienced through 20-100Mbps access; it also aides the network deployment process, while enhancing O&M and TTM efficiency and reducing CAPEX/OPEX.

Challenges

With an uncertain global economy, most fixed operators are under great pressure to reduce CAPEX and OPEX, which means legacy conservation whenever possible. However, fiber-based broadband networking is key to market share expansion and increased profits. The challenge lies in balancing fiber rollout with legacy copper evolution.

Our Solution

SingleFAN helps operators enhance network deployment and O&M efficiency, enhancing TTM while reducing TCO.

Efficient network investment

  • Fiber & copper synergy: SingleFAN provides a unified platform for PON, P2P, DSL, coax, E1, and other media, reducing the need for access nodes and generally reducing CAPEX/OPEX at the infrastructure level.
  • 100Mbps through any media: SingleFAN supports both FTTH and FTTB/C networking. Through its DSL vectoring technology, copper can deliver 100Mbps within 300 meters, while the coming Giga DSL (G.Fast) can deliver over 1Gbps within 100 meters. SingleFAN also supports Ethernet over coax (EOC) so that all legacy cabling scenarios are accommodated.
  • Seamless evolution: SingleFAN supports smooth evolution from GPON to 10G-PON and NG-PON2, as well as G.fast technology, so that voice, private line, video and other broadband applications are guaranteed.

Efficient network construction

  • Automatic ODN planning: An inaccurate ODN design will waste CAPEX and impact network development. SingleFAN offers the MDS6690, a comprehensive ODN planning tool, which enables HLD/LLD/BOQ and aides the design comparison process.
  • Fast deployment: Site acquisition is difficult during FTTx rollout; SingleFAN eases this burden through a variety of outdoor cabinets, integrated boxes, RESHELL units, and others housings.
  • E2E iODN: SingleFAN provides product integration and E2E engineering. Through iODN, operators can make their once passive ODNs visible, manageable and operable.

Efficient network O&M

  • Unified O&M, fast OSS integration: SingleFAN can be managed through the iManager U2000 unified network management system, which supports standard northbound interfaces and can be integrated with mainstream operations support systems.
  • Fast service provisioning: Components such as iODN can be interconnected automatically for service provisioning, while ONU commissioning time is minimized through it’s the unit’s plug-&-play functionality.
  • Efficient service assurance: Huawei’s iManager N2510 supports timely & precise fault location; it also supports daily monitoring, automatic alarm warning & diagnosis, and line evaluation & optimization, all of which help ensure a seamless end-user experience.

Applications & Benefits

Thanks to the cost reductions and network value that it provides, SingleFAN has been adopted worldwide by 39 of the globe’s Top 50 operators, accounting for over 180 million users.
