Challenges

Devices like 3G data cards and smartphones have transformed the communications landscape and usage is growing so swiftly that Informa forecasts the number of mobile broadband users will reach 1.5 billion by 2013.

HD and video services are growing hand-in-hand with the devices. IP traffic has been growing rapidly in the bearer network due to fast growth in video and mobile broadband services. The convergence of services and terminals will further integrate and change network architecture.

Although services are richer, operators can hardly balance the gap between traffic and revenue, as the hot competition results in a slackening or even declining ARPU per byte. Operators are facing issues such as reducing the costs for IP network deployment and enhancing return on investment (ROI).

Our Solution

Ultra-broadband is fundamentally changing the nature and structure of the broadband industry, notably in terms of network infrastructure, services, O&M, and business models. Huawei stands ready to help operators overcome these challenges on the road to higher profitability.

Huawei’s "SingleMetro, MultiPlay" broadband metro strategy, launched in September 2009, aims at enabling operators to improve the profitability of ultra-broadband networks, increase revenue, and reduce operations and maintenance (O&M) costs. The solution uses a universal platform to accommodate different technologies, service processing needs and equipment types. Besides meeting full service bearing needs, the solution simplifies network architecture and lengthens the network lifecycle, thus enabling unified bearing with a Single Metro solution.

Applications & Benefits

By optimizing IP network elements and enabling mobile backhaul capability in the fixed broadband network, the SingleMetro solution fully realizes service bearing convergence, taps into the IP traffic potential, and helps operators deliver new business models to create a new profit stream and boost ROI.
