In the aftermath of a natural disaster, communications plays an extremely crucial role in relief efforts because it can hugely impact the ability of relief teams to carry out relief operations effectively. Thus Huawei tries to provide assistance in the shortest time possible in the event of a natural disaster, especially in the aspect of providing immediate communications abilities and reconstruction of telecoms networks.

In August 2006, Huawei staffs contributed over CNY4 million to typhoon-afflicted areas including Guangdong, Hu'nan and so on.
In July 2005, an unprecedented flood struck the Chinese province of Guangdong, and Huawei employees donated USD 475,000 to help people severely affected by the disaster rebuild their lives.
In August 1998, Huawei donated remote wireless access equipment worth USD 3.12 million to relief efforts for the strongest flood to hit China in over a hundred years. The equipment was used to support rescue efforts and restore communication infrastructure damaged by the flood. In addition, Huawei and its employees donated USD 1.875 million to rebuild schools in areas hit by the flood.
In our North American office, employees donated to Hurricane Katrina victims through the American Red Cross in November of 2005.
