In 2000, the mobile industry was beginning to boom. The core networks which existed at that time were complicated and expensive and not designed for the type of growth operators were experiencing. Huawei looked at the future of the mobile industry and we were convinced that the only way for the network to meet the future demands was to introduce a more advanced network architecture and move to IP.
The first mobile softswitch from Huawei entered service in December, 2003. Five short years later, we have shipped over 1 Billion licenses of mobile softswitch, meaning that 1 of every 5 mobile users is being handled by a Huawei core network, and we are the market leader.
The credit for this feat rests with the people of Huawei, who not only foresaw the direction of the industry, but had the IP expertise and software development maturity to implement an extremely complex system in a short time, with high quality. This teamwork between Huawei and our customers is a hallmark of Huawei's success and the focus of all of our activities.
Stéphane Téral, Principal Analyst for Infonetics Research
"Over the last few years, mobile telecommunications networks have been revolutionized by changing from TDM-based centralized control to IP-based, distributed control. Huawei's flawless execution in delivering a reliable and scalable softswitch since the beginning of the migration has helped to accelerate that trend, as shown by their being the first vendor to achieve this milestone."
Kevin Li, Senior Analyst for In-Stat
"According to the global mobile softswitch market report from In-Stat, Huawei leads the mobile softswitch market last 2 years, which benefits from the research and development investment of Huawei in IP, pool, platform and network evolution solution. Huawei ships 1 billion mobile softswitch licenses, that approves its rich business deployment in this area, which may help Huawei keeps the leading position."
