Transport: IP Transport Infrastructure for Multi-play Experience
In the broadband network, we have integrated both wired access as well as broadband for both fixed, mobile and backbones into one product line. We have a family of solutions that are all tied together under the umbrella of what we call IPTime, which is an effective integrated solution. Our carrier-grade All-IP capabilities allow us to deliver lower TCO because of this unified platform. IPTime enables delivery of any kind of media across the fixed access and fixed mobile broadband backhaul.
- All-IP infrastructure achievements
This has been achieved in a number of ways. Last year, Huawei announced the 10T multi-chassis cluster router. Different from traditional Internet IP companies, our focus is not just on getting the bits to be switched by the router but on being able to deploy it in a distributed fashion that provides network reliability and resilience. Our router is engineered to be able to handle services which are offered by broadband networks. Our 100Terabit wideband cross-connect, along with 10T optical transport network, allows us to handle the needs that is becoming known as ultra broadband, and we do that in a way that not only has All-IP infrastructure but also supports the quality and priority of services that are necessary to support the different kinds of streams; for real time media - voice and video, which have to be delivered quickly, or the more common Internet applications that are provided on a "best efforts" basis. We make sure we can deliver the level of quality in the IP infrastructure that carriers expect.
One of the technologies with which we achieve this, which we' ve called Triple Terabit, enables substantial cost saving. Our 1.28 terabit cross-connect, which is the industry' s first, helps substantially reduce the time that it takes to make changes to the network. So not only do we have this major cross-connect that can easily and quickly allow a 75% reduction in the time it takes to revise connections but it also can be opened up to the customers so they can manage their own broadband networks. In the case of optical switching, we have a networking backplane that handles up to terabits and this has been deployed not only by Telefonica but also by six of the top ten telecom operators. Having carrier-grade reliability means technology innovations have to be translated to what our customers are looking for, for instance, being able to get GPS class clock from an optical fiber connection, being able to handle single point failures in a diverse optical network within 50 milliseconds. The flexibility in our optical network provides the quality and resilience that telecom operators need as opposed to typical Internet technologies. This is realized with a unified platform, where our technologies are applied in different product lines. A single platform can manage everything from access up to software applications, so that operating expenses are significantly reduced.
- TCO benefits on All-IP
This results in lower cost of ownership, built on TCO saving in access, optical, in all the capabilities we provide in the area of carrier-grade IP. We have also implemented a unified development system to ensure the reuse of our technologies, covering network technologies, software related to operating systems for our routers and so on. End to end All-IP becomes one of our advantages, where our router technology finds its way into our mobile core, finds its way into our Ethernet routing as well as backplane routing. It is applied across a wide range, which allows us to help operators reduce their TCO.
