Security Advisory - Buffer Overflow Vulnerability in Inputhub Driver of Huawei Smart Phone

The inputhub driver of some Huawei mobile phones has a buffer overflow vulnerability due to the lack of parameter validation. An attacker tricks a user into installing a malicious APP and the APP may sends specific data to the inputhub driver to exploit this vulnerablity, successful exploit could cause the system reboot. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2017-10003)

This vulnerability has been assigned a Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) ID: CVE-2017-17313.

The attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the system reboot.

The vulnerability classification has been performed by using the CVSSv3 scoring system (http://www.first.org/cvss/specification-document).

Base Score: 5.5 (AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) 

Temporal Score: 5.1 (E:F/RL:O/RC:C)

This vulnerability can be exploited only when the following conditions are present:  

The attacker has successfully tricked a user into installing a malicious APP. 

Vulnerability details:  

An attacker tricks a user into installing a malicious APP and the APP may sends specific data to the inputhub driver to exploit this vulnerablity, successful exploit could cause the system reboot.

The product that supports automatic update will receive a system update prompt. You can install the update to fix the vulnerability.
