Huawei Australia appoints new Cyber Security Officer

Huawei Australia Chairman, Mr John Lord AM said Dr Shore was a highly credentialed information security professional who would bring a great deal of expertise and experience to the role.

"Dr Shore is well respected in the information security sector and has a strong understanding of our products and people," Mr Lord said. 

"We are delighted to have him lead on cyber security in Australia."

Dr Shore was born in England and studied Computer Science at the University of London. After immigrating to New Zealand he accepted a commission in the RNZAF retiring as the Assistant Director Information Systems in Defence Headquarters. He then joined the Government Communications Security Bureau taking responsibility for New Zealand's national information systems security. 

Subsequent to his work in Government, Dr Shore held Technical Director roles for CES Communications Ltd where he led the design and development of commercial landline, satellite, and radio encryption products; and for BAE Systems Applied Intelligence Australia where he ran the cyber security testing and threat intelligence functions. 

He has also held two Head of Security roles in the telecommunications sector, at Telecom New Zealand and the Australian National Broadband Network (NBN) company. Across these roles he managed all aspects of physical security, information security, and privacy and delivered Sarbanes Oxley and Protective Security Policy Framework compliance. 

Dr Shore holds a Masters certification in security architecture and has held adjunct positions at Canterbury University and Deakin University where he has lectured and researched cyber security.

He has also participated in the development of cyber security strategies in New Zealand, Australia, and ASEAN.  Dr Shore joined Huawei Australia as its Cyber Security Officer in June 2017.
