Huawei cyclist Fredy Gonzales to ride 1,576km from Sydney to Hobart
Australia 1 April 2014: Huawei has given a major boost to Tour De Cure cyclists riding from Sydney to Hobart, confirming a $50,000 sponsorship of the event.
Huawei will be represented on the 1576km ride by engineer Fredy Gonzales, who will cycle the full length of the tour to help raise funds and awareness of the Tour De Cure’s mission to cure cancer.
“The Tour De Cure is a fantastic event and Huawei Australia is proud to support this worthy cause,” Huawei Australia Managing Director Trevor Liu said.
“We wish all of the cyclists the best of luck as they help the Tour De Cure reach its fundraising target of $3 million this year.”
The ten-day ride will see the group ride from Sydney through Mossvale, Canberra, Adaminaby, Corryong, Wangaratta, Eildon, and Melbourne, then catch a ferry to Tasmania where they will ride from Devonport through Launceston and Swansea before finishing in Hobart on April 6. Groups of guest riders will join the tour at various stages, meeting local schools to spread their message of how one-in-three people are affected by cancer.
“My involvement with the Tour De Cure is important to me because cycling allows me to represent Huawei Australia both as a rider and fundraiser. I think the event should be supported not only with funds but also with hands-on activities and interaction with local communities,” Huawei cyclist Fredy Gonzales said.
Huawei has sponsored the Tour De Cure annually since 2011, and each year Huawei staff have cycled in the event and worked as volunteers to support the cause.
"This is Huawei’s fourth year with us and it is great to have them on board again as a corporate partner of Tour de Cure,” Tour De Cure co-founder Geoff Coombes said. “It’s great to have Huawei’s own Fredy Gonzales joining us on the Signature Tour to raise funds and awareness to help cure cancer.”
