[Dhaka, Bangladesh - 18 January 2008] Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Ltd., a subsidiary of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, has announced that it has donated network equipment and accessories worth US$580,000 to Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and University-Industry Linkage initiative. The equipment will be used for the development of a Data Communication Network Laboratory and enhancement of BUET's backbone network system.

As an end-to-end IP/MPLS backbone, NGN, 3G and E-Government solution provider, Huawei has long realized the importance of laboratory facilities with structured campus backbones in e-Education and high-end data communication training. The data communication equipment donated to BUET will allow the University to enhance its intranetwork structure and in turn will help students, teachers and staff to share access to the internet and intranet.
The development of a data communication laboratory will be used for high-end data communication technology training such as IP/MPLS backbone, QoS, and NGN. Local telecom operators can also contribute under this local training arrangement, bringing academic institutions and industry together and better preparing students for working-life in the telecom industry.
"Corporate social responsibility has always been a priority for Huawei in Bangladesh and globally,"said Mr. Wang Shengniu, Managing Director, Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Ltd at the official signing ceremony. "We are delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the development of data communications in this country and we look forward to seeing local talent graduating from BUET."

Prior to this donation, Huawei has sponsored two scholarship programs for Level -3 students of Electrical Engineering & Electronics of BUET. The company has also donated 20 Lacs to the Chief Advisors Fund during a recent devastating flooding in the country.
